This CR-78 is fully functional & in great condition.

In its time the CR78 was very popular. It has a recognizable sound that can be heard on hundreds of records from the late 70's and early 80's; everything from chart topping pop hits to underground experimental cassettes. Though hard to program without step writing hardware, the CR78 has a fun and immediate quality that set it apart from the rhythm boxes from its time. This is quality that is still inspiring today.

The CR-78's built-in rhythm sounds are a further development of those available on the earlier Roland Rhythm 33, 55 and 77 machines. It offers 4 preset rhythms and four programmable memory locations for storing patterns created by the user. These could be created by using step programming with the WS-1 box. A selection of preset fills and rhythm variations are also available, either to trigger manually, or automatically every 2, 4, 8 or 16 bars. No digital control of tempo is provided on the front panel, however the CR-78 would also accept an external V-trig clock to allow a control voltage to be fed in from another device such as a sequencer.

The analog percussion voices consist of:
  • bass drum
